48th Annual Milford Green Fall Show, MTA&A

 

Sept. 25 & 26 Milford, CT. 48th annual MEET THE ARTISTS & ARTISANS Fall Finale` 10 to 5 on the Historic Milford Green. Free public admission, held “whatever the weather”. Directions: I-95 North exit 37 High St. I-95 South exit 39A. Milford Green is at High and Broad Streets in downtown Milford Center. Follow yellow Artists/Artisans Arrow signs.

This juried fine art and handcraft show has received awards nationwide for its high caliber of exhibitors, unique demonstrations of participating sculptors, wood carvers and turners, painters, portraitists, caricaturists, blown glass, jewelers, on site artists and instrumental musicians. Sculptures in stone, direct welded metal, kinetic garden ornaments, by Domenic Belli, Sonny Cardinali, Joe DeMarco, delight the audience with wit, whimsy, and the imagination of their creators. Photographers capture all manner of nature and beauty, offering individual stylization with black and white imagery, giclee canvas prints, breathtaking visions. This competitive category includes-Sheila Caim-W. VA., Charles Hull-RI. from CT.=Denise morris Curt, Donald Hutchinson, Mary Heggerty Neschke, John Supan, and Carlton Taylor. Paintings, graphics, drawings in Oil, acrylic, water color, tempera/gem particles, pastel, gouache, charcoal, pen and ink, feature etchings, collage, illustrations, paintings on canvas, panel, stone, silenced/stringed, instruments. are always a lively and distinctive element in MTA&A shows. To discuss original art with its creators, and observe the work in progress throughout the show, is an exciting portion of what began 48 years ago on the Milford Green which is now the CT show chosen for the best 100 Fine art shows in the U.S. 

New artists and handcrafters from Texas, Minnesota, Florida, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia, present contemporary, creative designs, many based on the discoveries of their ancestors. Incredible hand painted ceramics, porcelain, pottery vessels, slip and trail glazed, both decorative and functional, are presented by Julianna Drumheller, The Mercado’s (Fire Witch), Lisa Strachan, Judith and Gary Tischler. Huge blown glass hanging basins, in rainbow colors, scatter prismatic light across Robert Handley’s glistening display. Rick Weiss returns from PA. using water colors to portray area homes with infinite detail and skill. Carol Taylor’s etchings have a new collage companion- incorporating paper, metallic threads, beads. 
Fran Henderson continues oil painting murals and canvas roundels of Hydrangea’s, and shorefront porches. Phil Chagnon introduces his giclee canvases of coastal lighthouses, and watercolor sailing vessels on nautical charts. Bruce Dumas paints large realistic acrylic interpretations of nature, animal studies, coastal New Englands shore and serene vista’s. Kenneth Lindgren sculpts and turns mammoth burl and exotic woods into-bowls, sculptures, and fantasy vessels.

Over 200 jewelers have been turned away since July as this is a categorized/juried show in order to bring the best of the best new and returning jewelers to the Green. The handcrafts led by Mattapoisett shore bird carver Michael McCarthy is a thrilling booth to observe blocks of wood turned into elegant, beloved and favorite birds. Clothiers, purse and bag makers, doll /teddy outfits, soap and candle makers, stained glass windows and door panels. Furniture and bird houses of Texas cedar and antique wood. Hand stitched quilts.Knitted hats, sweaters, layettes, for children, table linens, hand screen printed clothing, indigo dyed bed spreads and apparel. 3 Dimensional intarsia-inlaid wood wall hangings, lathe turned wooden pens, perfume applicators. Flowing silk and dry floral swags, garlands, table and mantel arrangements, are just a sample of the juried exhibitors participating Sat and Sun.
